A small canvas skull painting, the first completed of 2024. Last year put me through it and making it to the next with such a changed perspective is a gift I paid a high cost, but that’s that. The coward in me will be put to death at every turn this year. No more suffering.

Referencing a landscape book I’ve had for years. I never paint wild life so I thought this was a good place to try for a change.
Accidentally dropped this mirror trying to move it to a new spot. I picked up the larger shards and decided it needed a second life anyway. Painted the frame from black to blue and I used the same marker / coffee filter paper sheets for the background as I do with my flowers.
Taken just after a rain. An empty trail just for me.

Below is the sketch page on the right, then the final canvas drawing on the left. This is the second painting from these sketch ideas. I may have been thinking about alien rulers / destroyers or something. Whatever it was, I love the results.
A spray painted background. I free handed this one and see different things when I look at it. Dancing with a ghost. Trying to kill a ghost. Being taken over by a ghost. Fending off possession. Something like that.

I have been stuck on a title, but think I’ve settled on “By Any Means” as in answering the question “how are you getting by?” Wondering about just how much it takes to stay propped up and moving through this life. Title might change but it works for now.
